What if I am already on medication or am engaged with a psychologist or other professional?  Can I still use EFT?

Yes.  EFT does not diminish or interfere with the intended effects of other health or medical practices that may be used concurrently.  In fact, despite EFT being an emerging complementary technique it is already used by many psychologists, doctors, nurses, and medical institutions world wide in addition to allopathic treatment regimes.

Can EFT work on its own as an independent healing modality?

Yes. EFT can complement other therapies or be used independently.  As an independent modality, EFT has successfully been used to assist in millions of cases world-wide for emotional stressors behind a plethora of conditions such as headaches, fears and phobias, weight loss, panic and anxiety, back pain, addictions and allergies, relationships, and so much more.

Tapping on meridian points sounds a little woo woo to me.  How well founded in science is it?

EFT is completely founded in science.  In fact there is so much data collected on EFT that there is meta-data (where they compare the results of different studies).  Just recently Australian Psychologist, Dr Peta Stapleton, was singled out as Psychologist of the year for 2019.  Dr Stapleton is one of the leading researchers, world wide, into EFT Tapping.  To read studies on EFT Tapping, visit

Can I claim it on my health insurance?

Unfortunately, not yet. It takes an average of 17 years before  new practices are accepted into allopathic medicine and we aren't quite there yet.  But those in the know say it will be soon!

What if I find it too uncomfortable to talk about what I want to work on?

EFT has a number of gentle techniques that allows you to work on an issue without having to re-live traumatic experiences.  Once the emotion is discharged, it is often the case that people become comfortable enough to talk and think about their situation without being triggered, leading to better reflection and learning.  In the right circumstances EFT can often create that safe space where real healing can occur.

I've had this symptom for years.  How quickly can EFT work?

While it depends on the context of individual cases, EFT can work almost instantaneously in addressing the emotional triggers behind a symptom.  The flow on effect can result in an immediate lowering of stress and therefore cortisol levels, an increase in immune system markers and so on.  Clearly, addressing some biological outcomes such as weight loss may take time but removing food cravings can happen in just one session.  However, some cases can be complex and EFT may need to be applied over a number of sessions in order to "peel back the layers" slowly and gently in a way that is safe for the recipient.  In these situations engaging a qualified practitioner is recommended.

Can I practice EFT by myself?

Yes.  In fact once you learn the technique, and according to your ability, you are able to use it by yourself in the privacy of your own space, at your own pace, as personal circumstances require, for free!

When should I engage a certified EFT practitioner?

Obviously the best way to familiarise yourself with the technique is to engage a certified clinical EFT practitioner to help you learn.  Once you are competent in the technique and are confident in its application you are free to use it as you see fit.  However, keep in mind that we all have "blind spots."  These are areas where we are unable to view our situation from an unbiased perspective. Because of this we may not be able to drill down to the underlying emotional triggers that cause the symptom.  If resolution seems to be just outside your grasp it is possible you have a blind spot that prevents it.  A certified practitioner can help in this instance. Also, some psychological trauma usually requires a deep understanding of the technique's application and limitations beyond what can be gleaned from a manual or online course. For this reason severe stresses are best unpacked with the help of a certified practitioner. In these situations engaging a certified clinical EFT practitioner is worthwhile.  A certified practitioner is trained in asking the right questions to identify the emotional triggers and help you rebalance and reprogram negative thinking in relation to a specific issue.

Do I have to be physically present to work with an EFT practitioner?

No.  While there are obvious benefits in connecting with someone in the same room it is not essential.  In fact, most sessions are facilitated via video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Skype, Wire or Face Time.  This type of delivery also allows the practitioner to provide the client a recording of the session as requested.  If situations require, it can even be facilitated over the phone without a visual.  These alternative methods provide a level of convenience that other therapies may not offer.

EFT requires touch.  Is it invasive?

No.  EFT is a cognitive, somatic, energetic approach to addressing emotional conflicts and requires you to tap on certain acupuncture points on the face, hands and torso.  However this is usually performed by the recipient who taps on their own points.  In a complex case a clinician may need to tap on the recipient although this is occasional.

What does a typical EFT consultation look like?  Do I need to learn the technique beforehand?

Each practitioner will have their own method of application but the technique remains the same. At the heart of a session the practitioner will guide you through, indicating where to tap and what to say, so no prior knowledge is required.  The practitioner will also ask questions in order to identify underlying issues. While helpful, it is not necessary to describe a trauma (and hence re-live it) but you will need to be able to verbalise how it makes you feel or where the pain is in your body.  An effective practitioner will help you with this process too.  At the end if more time is needed to fully resolve an issue, a practitioner will wind up any "loose ends" to help you feel comfortable enough to either finish processing on your own or wait until another session can be organised.  It is not usual that a recipient leaves feeling upset.

How long is a consultation?

50 minute consultations are available.  Occasionally they may stretch out to 80 minutes pending on the priorities of the client.  If it is your first time, 80 minutes is recommended.

How easy is EFT?

According to original founder and researcher Gary Craig, "A dedicated twelve-year-old can achieve a 50% success ratio, even with problems that often stump doctors and conventional psychotherapists. Truly skilled practitioners often achieve 90%."
